Welcome to Wonderland! The Queen of Hearts has invited you all down the rabbit hole for a little card game.
Parade is a card game put out by Z-MAN Games in their deluxe card game series for 2-6 players, ages 8+ that takes about 45 minutes to play!
Goal: Score the lowest amount of points when the game ends.
The Deck contains 66 cards, in 6 colors ranging from 0-11
Game Setup: Shuffle the deck and deal each player a hand of 5 cards for their starting hand.
And then deal 6 cards off the deck to form the parade
Now you are ready!
Game play: Players will play 1 card, check & take cards, draw back to 5 cards
1.You will play a card at the end of the parade.
Using the value on the card played, count that many cards away from the played card. Any cards up to the played card’s value , are safe and not taken. Any cards after the safe cards are checked to see if cards need to be taken
Cards are taken following the these 2 rules:
1. Any cards of the same color
2. Any cards with the same or lower value as the played card
Here are 2 examples:
Any cards taken in this way are stacked by color in front of that player
3. After taking some or no cards, you end you turn by drawing a card from the deck, bringing you hand back up to 5 cards
Each player will follow the same 3 step in clockwise order until 1 of the 2 ending conditions are triggered
Ending the game & scoring:
The game can end in 1 of 2 ways:
- The last card of the deck is drawn
- 1 player has at least one card from each color in front of them
When one of these conditions are met, everyone, including the triggering player have 1 more final turn. After that everyone should have 4 cards remaining in hand.
From these 4 cards, you will first discard 2, and then add 2 to your collection in front of you.
Scoring: Starting with any color, each player will count up the number of cards they have in that color. The player(s) with the most cards in the color have majority. If you have majority, each card is with 1 point per card. Any no-majority winners score face vale of the cards in that color combined
2-player scoring: A player only has majority if they have 2 or more cards in the given color then their opponent.
After majorities are established, the player with the lowest score is the winner.
Parade is a fun family game. The game is easy to teach and play! Even though the rules are simple, there are little bits of strategy hidden throughout the game as you play. You will find yourself sitting there counting to see which cards will be safe, and also, hoping someone won’t take the cards you were planning on taking I have taught this game several times now, and each time we want to play again immediately.
Any theme could have been used and the game would work just fine, it’s just a matter of preference! I love the Wonderland theme personally, there needs to be more games with this theme!
The only downside to this game is that it can take up a fair bit of table space when the parade is super long!
